A total of 2,594 deaths were registered in La Union within the 3rd quarter of 2021.  The figure indicated an increase of 88.11 percent from the 1,379 death occurrences in the same period of the previous year. (Table 1)

 

 

The City of San Fernando ranked first in terms of the number of registered deaths in 3rd quarter of 2021 with 848 or 32.69 percent of the total registered deaths in the

Province of La Union. The municipality of Agoo placed second with 305 registered deaths (11.76 percent share), followed by Bauang with 143 (5.51 percent share), Naguilian with 139 (5.36 percent share) and Rosario with 137 (5.28 percent share).

 

In the same quarter of the previous year 2020, the City of San Fernando still has the highest record of registered deaths with 1,488 deaths (50.15 percent) of the provincial total. This was followed by Agoo with 665 registered deaths (22.41 percent share), Bacnotan with 264 (8.90 percent share), Naguilian with 176 (5.93 percent share) and Bauang with 58 (1.95 percent share).

 

The municipality of Burgos recorded the smallest number of registered deaths in the third quarter of 2021 with 13 deaths (0.50 percent share). It was followed by municipality of Bagulin of 18 deaths having a percentage share of 0.69. Lastly, Santol having the record of 22 deaths (0.85 percent share).

 

The record of the least number of registered deaths in the 3rd quarter of 2020 was in the municipality of Luna having only 1 death recorded. Followed by the municipality of Pugo having a record of three registered death with a percentage share 0.10 and Burgos having a record of three registered deaths with a percentage share of 0.17 for the second quarter of 2020. (Table 1)

 

 

 

In 3rd quarter of 2021, mortality was at its peak in the month of September with total registered deaths of 1,148. This figure is more than one-third of the provincial quarterly total of 2,967 death occurrences. The number of deaths in September 2021 translates to an average of 38 death occurrences per day. The figure was higher than the provincial daily average death occurrences of 28.

 

Meanwhile, the highest number of registered deaths in 3rd quarter of 2020 was posted in the month of September with 1,152 death occurrences. This translates to an average of 38 deaths occurrences per day. (Table 2)

 

 

 

In 3rd quarter 2021, more males (1,382 or 53.28%) were dying than females (1,212 or 46.72 %) resulting to a sex ratio at death of 114 males per 100 females. (Figure 3)

 

 

There were more death occurrences among males with a record of 1,382 than females which have 1,212 in the province of La Union for the 3rd quarter 2021.  The computed sex ratio during the quarter was 114. The computed figure of sex ratio means that there are 114 males per 100 female death

 

A total of 11 city/municipalities posted a sex ratio higher than the provincial sex ratio, the highest of which were recorded in the municipality of Bacnotan having a sex ratio of 153, Santol with 144. Followed by the municipality of Pugo who posted a sex ratio of 142.  The lowest sex ratio of 71 was noted in Sudipen. (Table 3)

Data on deaths presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Death (Municipal Form 103) registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information included deaths registered from October to December of 2019 and 2020.
