A total of 1361 deaths were registered in La Union in third quarter 2020.  The figure indicated a decrease of 5.35 percent death occurrences from the same period of 2019 figure of 1,438.

 

 

The municipalities of Burgos posted the smallest number of registered deaths in third quarter 2020 with 6 deaths (0.44 percent share). It was followed by municipalities of Santol with 12deaths (0.88 percent share).

Similarly, the municipality of Burgoshad the least number of registered deathsin same quarter of 2019 with 10 deaths (0.70 percent share), followed by municipality of Santol with 11 deaths (0.76 percent share).

 

 

The City of San Fernando ranked first in terms of the number of registered deaths in third quarter 2020 with 473 or 34.75 percent of the total registered deaths in the province.  Agoo placed second with 141 registered deaths (10.36 percent share), followed by Bauang with 88 (6.47 percent share), Rosario with 79 (5.80 percent share) and Naguilian with 68 (5.00 percent share).

In third quarter 2019, the City of San Fernando also recorded the highest number of registered deaths with 683 deaths or 47.50 percent of the provincial total. This was followed by Agoo with 164 registered deaths (11.40 percent share), Balaoan with 63 (4.38 percent share), Naguilian with 55(3.82 percent share) and Bauang with 53 (3.69 percent share).

 

 

In third quarter 2020, mortality was at its peak in the month of September with total registered deaths of 478. This figure is more than one-third of the provincial quarterly total of 1,361 death occurrences. The number of deaths in September 2020 translates to an average of 16 death occurrences per day. The figure was higher than the daily average death occurrences of 15.

Meanwhile, the highest number of registered deaths inthird quarter 2019 was posted in the month of Augustwith 497death occurrences. This translates to an average of 16 deaths occurrences per day.

 

 

 

There were more death occurrences among males (793) than females (568) in La Union in third quarter 2020.  The computed sex ratio during the year was 140 which means that 140 males died for every 100 female deaths. 

A total of seven city/municipalities posted a sex ratio higher than the provincial sex ratio, the highest of which were recorded in the municipalities of Bagulin and Santol with both sex ratio of 200.Agoo ranked second with 176 followed by Naguilian with 162.  The lowest sex ratio of 100 was noted in Burgos.

Data on deaths presented in this release were obtained from theCertificate of Death (Municipal Form 103) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information included deaths registered from July to September of 2019 and 2020.
