Data on deaths presented in this release werc obtained from the Certificate of Death (Municipal Fom 103) that werc registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offices in Ilocos Region. lnformation included deaths registercd in April to June 2019 and April to June 2020.

 

Registered deaths in all provinces decreased this month
  • Ilocos Region registered a total of 2,580 deaths in March 2020.
  • Pangasinan topped the highest number of deaths. lts share was more than half (58 percent) of the total registered deaths in the region at 1,491 deaths.
  • La Union ranked second wrth 442 deaths (17 percent).
  • Ilocos Sur and llocos Norte followed with 330 deaths (13 percent) and 317 (12 percent), respectively.
  • In all provinces, the number of deaths decreased from 2019 to 2020.
Males outnumber females in terms of registered deaths
  • Males (1,457) outnumbered females (1,123) in terms of registered deaths in the first quarter of 2020, resulting to a sex ratio of 130 males per 100 females.
  • Ilocos Sur posted a sex ratio of 134 which was higher than the regional ratio.
  • Pangasinan followed with a sex ratio of 130 and llocos Norte with a sex ratio of 133.
  • La Union posted the lowest sex ratio in the region with 123.

Deaths in the region were mostly medically attended
  • There were 1,266 total registered deaths that were attended by medical practitioners.
  • Deaths that were not medically attended reached up to 1,146.

Percentage of deaths atlended by health professionals highest in La Union
  • La Union had the highest percentage of recorded deaths attended by health professionals with 60 percent of the total registered deaths in the province.
  • In Ilocos Norte, health professionals attended to 50 percent ofthe deaths in the province.
  • In Pangasinan, health professionals attended to 49 percent of the deaths in the province while 36 percent of the deaths registered in llocos Sur were attended by health professionals.
  • Among provinces, Pangasinan had the most number of deaths assisted by health professionals at 728 deaths.

There were 23 corpses cremated in Ilocos Region this March 2020
  • Generally, corpses in the region were disposed through burial. This month, there were 2,522 corpses who were buried.
  • Pangasinan had the most number of corpses buried while Ilocos Norte had the least number of buried corpses at 1,469 and 316, respectively.
  • Cremation is another option for corpse disposal. In the region, there were 23 cremated corpses this March 2020.
  • Pangasinan registered fifteen (15) cremated corpses while La Union listed eight cremated corpses.
