Registered deaths in the region surpassed eight thousand in the fourth quarter of 2020

  • Ilocos Region registered a total of 8,801 deaths in the fourth quarter of 2020.
  • Pangasinan topped the highest number of deaths in the fourth quarter of 2020.  Its share was more than half (60 percent) of the total registered deaths in the region at 5,244 deaths.  
  • La Union ranked second with 1,368 deaths (16 percent). 
  • Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte followed with 1,135 deaths (13 percent) and 1,054 (12 percent), respectively. 
  • The registered deaths in Ilocos Region decreased in fourth quarter of 2020 compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

 

Dagupan City tops with the most registered number of deaths

  • Among cities/municipalities in the region, Dagupan City, Pangasinan registered the highest number of deaths with 751 deaths in the fourth quarter of 2020.
  • San Carlos City, Pangasinan followed at 540 deaths, then City of San Fernando, La Union with 496 deaths, City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan with 335 deaths, Batac, Ilocos Norte with 298 deaths, and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte with 229 deaths.  Other cities/municipalities in the region had less than two hundred registered deaths.

Males outnumber females in terms of registered deaths

  • Males (4,933) outnumbered females (3,868) in terms of registered deaths  in the fourth quarter of 2020.
  • In all provinces, there were more deaths in males than in females.
  • Pangasinan had the most number of registered male deaths with 2,955.  La Union followed at 767 registered deaths.   
  • Most registered female deaths were also observed in Pangasinan with 2,289 deaths.  La Union followed at 601 female deaths.

Most deaths in the region were attended by medical practitioners

  • Deaths that were not medically attended by medical practitioners reached up to 3,919.
  • In the region, medical practitioners attended to 4,202 deaths.

Percentage of deaths attended by health professionals highest in La Union  

  • La Union had the highest percentage of recorded deaths attended by health professionals with 66 percent of the total registered deaths in the province.
  • In Ilocos Norte, health professionals attended to 52 percent of the deaths in the province.
  • In Ilocos Sur, health professionals also attended to 52 percent of the deaths in the province while 41 percent of the deaths registered in Pangasinan were attended by health professionals.   
  • Among provinces, Pangasinan had the most number of deaths assisted by health professionals at 2,156 deaths.  La Union followed at 907 deaths, then Ilocos Sur  at 594 deaths, and Ilocos Norte at 545 deaths.
