Data on deaths presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Death  (Municipal Form 103) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - Provincial Statistical Offices in Ilocos Region. Information included deaths registered in February 2019 and in February 2020.

Registered deaths in the region surpassed two thousand in February 2020

  • Ilocos Region registered a total of 2,816 deaths in February 2020.
  • Pangasinan topped the highest number of deaths in February 2020.  Its share was more than half (56 percent) of the total registered deaths in the region at 1,586 deaths.  
  • La Union ranked second with 505 deaths (18 percent). 
  • Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte followed with 366 deaths (13 percent) and 359 (13 percent), respectively. 

Dagupan City tops with the most registered number of deaths

  • Among cities/municipalities in the region, Dagupan City, Pangasinan registered the highest number of deaths with 302 deaths in February 2020.
  • City of San Fernando, La Union followed at 230 deaths; then San Carlos City, Pangasinan with 178 deaths; City of Batac, Ilocos Norte with 129 deaths; and City of Urdaneta, Pangasinan with 76 deaths.

Males outnumber females in terms of registered deaths

  • Males (1,593) outnumbered females (1,223) in terms of registered deaths  in February 2020.
  • Pangasinan registered the most number of male deaths at 881 persons.  La Union followed at 216 deaths while Ilocos Norte listed the least number of male deaths at 141 persons.
  • Among females, Pangasinan also registered the most number of registered deaths with 705 persons.  La Union ranked second with 216 female deaths while Ilocos Norte recorded the least number of females with 141 persons.

Deaths in the region were mostly medically attended

  • There were 1,433 total registered deaths that were attended by medical practitioners.
  • Deaths that were not medically attended reached up to 1,383.

Percentage of deaths attended by health professionals highest in La Union  

  • La Union had the highest percentage of recorded deaths tended by health professionals with 71 percent of the total registered deaths in the province.
  • In Ilocos Norte, health professionals attended to 57 percent of the deaths in the province.
  • In Pangasinan, health professionals attended to 47 percent of the deaths in the province while 36 percent of the deaths registered in Ilocos Sur were attended by health professionals.  
  • Among provinces, Pangasinan had the most number of deaths assisted by health professionals at 52 percent (738 deaths).
  • La Union followed at 25 percent (357 deaths), then Ilocos Norte at 14 percent  (206 deaths), and Ilocos Sur at 9 percent (132 deaths)
