Construction statistics of the Ilocos Region are based on approved building permits on new constructions and additions, alterations and repairs of existing residential and non-residential buildings, and other structures, which are proposed to be constructed in the cities and municipalities of the country in a specific period.

 

Construction projects increased to 4,199 in the fourth quarter of 2020

The total number of approved building permits in the fourth quarter of 2020 reached 4,199. Residential-type buildings with 3,279 construction projects shared 78.09 percent to the overall total.  Non-residential buildings contributed 13.53 percent with 568 construction projects, while, the combined number of additions, alterations and repairs contributed 8.38 percent to the total number of approved building permits with 352 construction projects.

Ilocos Norte recorded the highest number of construction projects

Among the four provinces of the Ilocos Region, Ilocos Norte recorded the highest number of construction projects with 1,431 accounting for 34.08 percent of the total number of construction projects. Pangasinan followed with 1,405 construction projects or 33.46 percent share, Ilocos Sur with 809 construction projects or 19.27 percent share, and La Union with 554 accounting for 13.19 percent of total number of construction projects.

Total value of construction amounts to PhP5,430.4 million

The total value of constructions from approved building permits reached PhP5,430.4 million in the Ilocos Region for the fourth quarter 2020.

By type of construction projects, the value of residential buildings amounted to PhP3,472.2 million, while non-residential buildings amounted to PhP1,762.7 million.

The combined value of additions, alterations, and repairs of existing structures was PhP195.5 million.

Single houses comprised 95.15 percent of the residential buildings

Single houses recorded the highest number of construction projects with 3,120 accounting for 95.15 percent of the total residential buildings. Duplex ranked second with 107 residential construction projects representing 3.26 percent of the total residential construction. Apartment/accessoria houses recorded 51 construction projects accounting for 1.56 percent while other residential house recorded only one construction project during the period accounting for 0.03 percent.

Average cost per square meter of residential building construction is PhP9,968.0

The total value of construction for residential buildings was about PhP3,472.2 million with a total floor area of 348,336 square meters, translating to an average cost of PhP9,968.0 per square meter.

The total value of construction for single-type residential houses reached PhP3,106.0 million covering a total floor area of 313,882 square meters, translating to an average cost of PhP9,895.4 per square meter.

Duplex had an estimated construction value of PhP199.5 million with a total floor area of 18,823 square meters, translating to an average cost of PhP10,597.0 per square meter.

Apartment/accessoria houses recorded a total construction value of PhP165.9 million and a total floor area of 15,511 square meters or an average cost of PhP10,693.2 per square meter.

Other residential buildings recorded a construction value amounted to PhP0.9 million and a floor area of 120 square meters or a cost of PhP7,658.3 per square meter.

Commercial buildings recorded 67.78 percent of the non-residential buildings

Commercial buildings had the highest number of constructions with 385 projects or 67.78 percent of the total non-residential constructions. Institutional buildings ranked second with 94 construction projects or 16.55 percent of the total non-residential construction. Industrial buildings followed with 45 construction projects representing 7.92 percent, while agricultural buildings recorded 34 construction projects or 5.99 percent of the total non-residential constructions.

Other non-residential buildings contributed ten construction projects or 1.76 percent share.

Value of non-residential building constructions reached PhP1,762.7 million

The total value of non-residential building constructions in the Ilocos Region reached PhP1,762.7 million with a total floor area of 154,483 square meters, reflecting an average cost of PhP11,410.6 per square meter.

Of the non-residential constructions, institutional buildings had the highest value amounting to PhP1,050.6 million. It has a total floor area of 73,374 square meters with an average cost of PhP14,318.6
per square meter.

Commercial buildings followed with a value of PhP517.8 million and a total floor area of 57,122 square meters with an average cost of PhP9,064.3 per square meter.

Industrial buildings had a value of construction estimated at PhP159.8 million covering a total floor area of 19,297 square meters or an average cost of PhP8,281.1 per square meter.

Agricultural buildings ranked fourth with a total construction value of PhP30.6 million and a total floor area of 4,690 square meters with an average cost of PhP6,521.7 per square meter.

Other non-residential buildings accounted the least value of about PhP4.0 million.
