PRODUCTION

The overall chicken production of Ilocos Region narrowly surpassed its First Semester 2021 output of 40,512.77 metric tons, liveweight posting a 3.12 percent gain in the same period of 2022 at 41,777.05 metric tons, liveweight.

The Ilocos Region contributed 4.55 percent (Fig.2) to the national output of 918,152.46 metric tons liveweight, ranking 7th among regions in the country.

INVENTORY

The region’s total chicken population as of 01 January 2022 was estimated at 12.08 million birds or 11.72 percent more than the previous year’s same period count of 10.81 million birds. Of the region’s inventory as of January 1, 2022, broiler chicken contributed 55.09 percent, followed by native or improved chicken with 35.82 percent share, and layer chicken with 9.09 percent share. Inventory of native/improved chicken and layer chicken dropped by 15.14 percent and 13.63 percent, respectively. On the other hand, broiler chicken stocks grew by 49.81 percent.

The provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union registered decreases in inventory as of January 1, 2022 by 23.49 percent, 4.99 percent and 10.03 percent respectively. Meanwhile, chicken population in Pangasinan grew by 35.55 percent compared to the January 01, 2021 count of 5.70 million birds.

PRICES

The average farm price of chicken native, live in 1st Semester 2022 was PhP187.31 per kilo, liveweight. This was higher by 5.94 percent than the farm price in the same period last year of PhP176.81 per kilo, liveweight. The highest farm price recorded was PhP 197.24 per kilo, liveweight in February 2022, while the lowest price was observed in April 2022 at Php175.48 per kilo, liveweight.
