The number of registered live births in La Union in 4th quarter 2020 summed up to 3,201, a decrease of 28.21 percent compared with the 4,459 births in the same period of 2019. The daily average birth occurrence in 4th quarter 2020 was computed at 35 births or an average of two babies born per hour.

 

 

 

In 4th quarter 2020, the month of December recorded the highest daily average births with 39 babies, while the month of November posted the lowest daily average births with 31 babies. Meanwhile, in the same period a year ago, the highest daily average births was recorded in November with 71 babies while the lowest daily average births was recorded in December with 34 babies.

 

 

Among the city/municipalities in the province, the City of San Fernando registered the highest number of births with 1,494 in 4th quarter 2020.  Its share was near half or 46.67 percent of the total registered births in La Union. Agoo ranked second with 767 births (23.96 percent share), distantly followed by Bacnotan with 247 births (7.72 percent share), Naguilian with 237 births (7.40 percent share) and Rosario with 94 births (2.94 percent share).

 

 

On the other hand, Luna had the lowest number of registered live births both in 4th quarter 2019 and 4th quarter 2020 with four births (0.09 percent share) and three births (0.09 percent share) respectively.

 

 

Males (1,633) outnumbered females (1,568) in terms of registered live births in 4th quarter 2020 resulting to a sex ratio of 104 males per 100 females.

 

Nine city/municipalities posted a sex ratio higher than the provincial ratio. The highest sex ratio of 900 was recorded in Burgos. This was followed by Santol with a sex ratio of 133, Bagulin with 129, Bauang with 123 and Tubao with 118.

 

 

There were 3,003 registered live births in 4th quarter 2020 attended by medical practitioners which may either be a physician, a nurse or a midwife. On the other hand, there were 194 births or 6.06 percent of the total registered births in the province in 4th quarter 2020 attended by traditional birth attendants and other birth attendants.

            Data on births presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Birth (Municipal Form No. 102) registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information presented include births registered from October to December of 2019 and 2020.
