The number of registered live births in La Union within the 3rd quarter of 2021 reached to a total of 2,735 with a decrease of 7.82 percent compared with the 2,967 births in the same period of 2020. The computed daily average birth occurrence was at 30 birth in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

 

 

 

In 3rd quarter of 2021, the month of September recorded the highest daily average births with 36 babies, while the month of July posted the lowest daily average births with 26 babies. Meanwhile, in the same period of the previous year, the highest daily average births were still recorded in the month of September with 38 babies while the lowest daily average births were recorded in the month of August with 26 babies.

 

 

Among the city/municipalities in the province, the City of San Fernando registered the highest number of births with 1,344 in 3rd quarter of 2021.  Its share was near half or 49.14 percent of the total registered births in La Union. Agoo ranked second with 579 births (21.17 percent share), distantly followed by Naguilian with 182 births (6.65 percent share), Bacnotan with 130 births (4.75 percent share) and Balaoan with 120 births (4.39 percent share).

 

On the other hand, Luna had the lowest number of registered live births both in 3rd quarter 2020 and 3rd quarter 2021 with 1 birth (0.03 percent share) and 3 births (0.11 percent share) respectively.

 

 

 

 

Males (1,423) outnumbered females (1,313) in terms of registered live births in 3rd quarter 2021 resulting to a sex ratio of 108.

 

Eight city/municipalities have exceeded the sex ratio of the provincial ratio. The highest sex ratio of 147 was recorded in municipality of San Gabriel. This was followed by municipalities of Balaoan and caba having a same sex ratio of 140 and Burgos with sex ratio of 133.

 

 

Ninety Three percent (93.56%) birth deliveries in La Union in 3rd quarter 2021 were attended by medical professionals (physician, midwife, or nurse). Majority of births were delivered by physicians with 2,251 (82.30%) followed by midwives with 305 (11.15%) and nurse with three birth delivery (0.11%). (Figure 4)

 

On the other hand, 173 births or 6.33 percent of the total delivered births in the province in 3rd quarter 2021 were delivered by a hilot/traditional birth attendant. Meanwhile, there were three births (0.11%) delivered by other birth attendants.

            Data on births presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Birth (Municipal Form No. 102) registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information presented include births registered from October to December of 2019 and 2020.
