Of the total household population of La Union in 2020, 50.6 percent are males (414.86 thousand) while 49.4 percent are females (405.48 thousand). In terms of age group, 216.04 thousand (26.3%) were under 15 years of age (young dependents). On the other hand, persons aged 15 to 64 years (working-age or economically-active population) totaled to 541.91 thousand (66.1%) while those in age groups 65 years and over (old dependents) comprised the remaining 62.40 thousand (7.6%). There were more males (85.5%) than females (82.2%) among the 0 to 54 age group. On the other hand, among the older age group (55 years and over), females (17.8%) outnumbered the males (14.5%).

The sex ratio in La Union was computed at 102 in 2020. This means that there were 102 males for every 100 females. The sex ratio of children aged below 15 years is at 108 males per 100 females, while those aged 15 to 64 years had a sex ratio of 105 males per 100 females. Moreover, among those aged 65 years and over, the sex ratio was 70 males per 100 females. This depicts a longer life expectancy among females than males or a higher mortality among males than females in the older age groups.

Moreover, the median age of La Union household population continues to rise during the past years. The median age in 2020 was computed at 28.5 years, which means that half of the household population was younger than 28.5 years, while the other half is older than 28.5 years.
