The Philippine Statistics Authority - Regional Statistical Services Office I (PSA-RSSO I)Civil Registration and Administrative Support Division (CRASD)spearheaded the conduct of the 1st Civil Registration Quiz Regional Championship during 30th Civil Registration Month (CRM) Closing Ceremony at PSA-RSSO IConference Room, City of San Fernando, La Union on February 28, 2020 with the theme “Shaping Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) by Embracing New Trends in the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
The Civil Registration Quiz served as culminating activity of the month-long celebration of the 2020 CRM and aimed to test the knowledge of PSA and Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) staff on civil registration. This year’s theme signifies the importance of fusion of technologies in producing an up-to-date and reliable Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS). The theme also lends support to the advocacy of “getting everyone in the picture” to create greater awareness on the importance of CRVS.
Before the quiz proper, Dr. Danites E. Teñido, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD), delivered her welcome remarks followed by an inspirational message from Atty. Sheila O. De Guzman, OIC of PSA RSSO I. Mr. Joel F. Natura, Administrative Officer III, presented the mechanics of the Civil Registration Quiz while Mr. Joseph E. Estoesta, Statistical Specialist II, served as the quizmaster.
Provincial eliminations were held in the respective PSA Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) and in the RSSO I before the regional championship. The top three winners from the provincial/division eliminations were qualified as participants to the Civil Registration Quiz Regional Championship.
Mr. Vic Andrew O. Cocson, Registration Officer I of LCRO - City of Batac, Ilocos Norte, emerged as the Regional Champion after the two rounds, outsmarting the other eleven participants. Mr. Edwin D. Ecobiza, Registration Officer III of the LCRO - Agoo, La Union and Mr. John Michael S. Sarabia, Assistant Statistician of PSA-RSSO I, were awardedas the 1 st and 2nd runners up respectively. The top three winners of the first Regional Civil Registration Quiz received cash prizes worth PhP3,000, PhP2,000 and PhP1,000, respectively. Certificates and advocacy materials were also given to all the contestants.
Municipal Civil Registrar (MCR) Laida G. Rico, President of the Philippine Association of Civil Registrars (PACR) Ilocos Chapter, in her message said, “We look forward to the support of the whole region in civil registration.” Lastly, Mr. Arturo S. Desola, OIC of CRASD, expressed his gratitude to everyone for supporting the activities of the month-long celebration of the 2020 CRM.
