Ilocos Region

The inflation rate of the Ilocos Region for all income household in May 2025 was observed at 2.3 percent, the same annual rate recorded in May 2024. This is higher than the recorded rate in April 2025 of 1.6 percent.
 

 

 

 

The higher inflation rates were observed in the indices of the following commodity groups:
   a. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 5.7 percent;
   b. Restaurants and accommodation services, 3.8 percent;
   c. Clothing and footwear, 2.8 percent;
   d. Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance, 1.6 percent;
   e. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 3.7 percent;
   f. Health, 1.6 percent; and
   g. Recreation, sport and culture, 3.4 percent.

On the other hand, lower indices were noted for the following commodity groups:
   a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 1.6 percent; and
   b. Transport, -3.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the following commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s annual growth rates:
   a. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 1.7 percent;
   b. Information and communication, -0.1 percent;
   c. Education services, 2.9 percent; and
   d. Financial services, 0.0 percent.

Furthermore, the following commodity groups were the top three major contributors to the May 2025 overall inflation for all income households:
   a. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 43.6 percent share or 1.00 percentage point.
   b. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 28.6 percent share or 0.66 percentage point; and
   c. Restaurants and accommodation services, 20.1 percent share or 0.46 percentage point.

 

 

As shown in Table D, the food index of Ilocos Region in May 2025 went down to 1.6 percent from the recorded rate of 2.0 percent in April 2025. In May 2024, the food index was posted at 6.8 percent.

The following food groups showed lower inflation rates in May 2025:
   a. Rice, -13.5 percent;
   b. Corn, -22.9 percent; and
   c. Sugar, confectionery and desserts (ND), 0.4 percent.

On the other hand, higher inflation rates were recorded in the following food groups:
   a. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals (ND), 6.3 percent;
   b. Milk, other dairy products and eggs (ND), 3.6 percent;
   c. Oils and fats (ND), -1.0 percent;
   d. Fruits and nuts, 19.6 percent;
   e. Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses (ND), 11.2 percent; and
   f. Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c. (ND), 4.2 percent.

 

 

Among the provinces, Ilocos Sur posted the highest inflation rate at 3.7 percent in May 2025, followed by Pangasinan at 2.6 percent. La Union and Ilocos Norte recorded inflation rates of 1.7 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.

Compared to their respective levels in May 2024, Ilocos Sur recorded higher inflation rate, while Pangasinan maintained its annual inflation rate at 2.6 percent. La Union and Ilocos Norte recorded lower inflation rates.
