The inflation rate of the Ilocos Region for all income household in January 2025 remained at 2.9 percent, the same annual growth rate recorded in December 2024. Inflation rate in January 2024 was posted at 1.5 percent.
The lower inflation rates were observed in the indices of the following commodity groups:
a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 4.7 percent;
b. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 2.2 percent;
c. Clothing and footwear, 4.0 percent;
d. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 0.5 percent;
e. Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 2.3 percent;
f. Information and communication, -0.1 percent;
g. Recreation, sport and culture, 3.0 percent;
h. Education services, 2.9 percent; and
i. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 4.2 percent.
On the other hand, higher indices were noted in the following commodity groups:
a. Health, 2.0 percent;
b. Transport, 0.5 percent; and
c. Restaurants and accommodation services, 2.0 percent.
Meanwhile, financial services retained its previous month’s inflation rate or had zero percent annual growth. (Table C)
Furthermore, the following commodity groups were the top three major contributors to the January 2025 overall inflation for all income households:
a. Food and non-alcoholic beverages, 65.2 percent share
or 1.89 percentage points;
b. Restaurants and accommodation services, 9.3 percent share or 0.27 percentage point; and
c. Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services,
7.5 percent share or 0.22 percentage point.
As shown in Table D, the food index of Ilocos Region in January 2025 retained its previous month’s inflation of 4.8 percent. In January 2024, the food index was posted at 4.7 percent. The following food groups showed lower inflation rates in January 2025:
a. Rice, -3.2 percent;
b. Corn, 14.8 percent;
c. Flour, Bread and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products, and Other Cereals, 2.2 percent;
d. Milk, other dairy products and eggs (ND), 0.9 percent;
e. Oils and fats (ND), -0.5 percent; and
f. Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c. (ND), 7.0 percent.
On the other hand, higher inflation rates were recorded in the following food groups:
a. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals (ND), 4.4 percent;
b. Fish and other seafood (ND), 5.1 percent;
c. Fruits and nuts (ND), 7.4 percent;
d. Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses (ND), 38.0 percent; and
e. Sugar, confectionery and desserts (ND), -1.1 percent.
Among the provinces, Ilocos Sur posted the highest inflation rate at 5.3 percent in January, followed by Ilocos Norte at 3.2 percent. Pangasinan and La Union recorded inflation rates of 2.6 percent and 2.0 percent, respectively.
Compared to their respective levels in January 2024, all provinces except La Union, recorded higher inflation rates.
