
The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office Region 1 (PSA-RSSO I) hosted the three-day Training on the Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES) 2013. The region-wide event was attended by a total of 31 government agencies, with 55 participants, hailing from regional and provincial offices as well as local government units. The training was conducted from 18 to 20 February 2025 in San Fernando City, La Union.
The undertaking was in cooperation with the Macroeconomic Accounts Service – Environmental and Natural Resources Accounts Division (MAS-ENRAD) of the PSA – Central Office. Region 1 served as the pilot session in the nationwide effort to disseminate the relevance and importance of FDES 2013 in making our government agencies more environment-inclusive, especially with decision-making and in formulating new policies. Through this training, participating agencies are able to identify their possible contributions to FDES 2013 for the development of economic indicators centered to the environment.
An overview on the framework with its six different components were discussed. Group exercises followed to further the participants’ understanding on each component. PSA - Cordillera Administrative Region also shared their experiences and challenges in the compilation of their environmental accounts. To conclude, the participants, together with the resource speakers, shared their insights on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats relevant to the framework.
