Marine municipal fisheries volume of production increases in third quarter 2024
Marine municipal fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 3,219 metric tons in the third quarter of 2024. This is higher by 1.1 percent from 24.7 percent from the 3,185 metric tons production in the third quarter of 2023.


La Union posted the highest increment in marine municipal fisheries production
La Union, with 603 metric tons output, had highest increment in marine municipal fisheries production with 21.3 percent from the 497 production in the third quarter of 2024.
Ilocos Sur marine municipal fisheries output increased by 0.7 percent in third quarter 2024. Its production grew from 991 metric tons to 998 metric tons.
Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan posted decreases in output by 7.3 percent and 3.0 percent, respectively. Ilocos Norte posted a production of 600 metric tons while Pangasinan recorded an output of 1,018 metric tons in third quarter 2024.

Pangasinan had the highest contribution of 31.6 percent in marine fisheries production
Pangasinan contributed 31.6 percent to the region’s marine municipal production in the third quarter of 2024. Ilocos Sur followed with 31.0 percent. La Union and Ilocos Norte shared 18.8 percent and 18.6 percent, respectively.

Skipjack records the highest volume of production
The top five species captured in marine municipal fisheries in the region during the third quarter of 2024 were skipjack, yellowfin tuna, roundscad, squid and anchovies.
Skipjack posted the highest volume in marine municipal fisheries production at 556 metric tons, which comprised 17.3 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production. The production was higher by 137.6 percent from the catch in the third quarter of 2023.
Yellowfin tuna followed with a production of 488 metric tons. It comprised 15.1 percent of the marine municipal fisheries production. Its production in third quarter 2024 was posted at 320 metric tons.
Roundscad recorded a production of 378 metric tons in the third quarter 2024. It comprised 11.8 percent of the marine municipal fisheries production. The production was lower than the output in the third quarter of 2024 with 484 metric tons.
Squid and anchovies, on the other hand, contributed 6.2 percent and 5.0 percent, respectively. Production of squid in the third quarter 2024 was registered at 199 metric tons, lower than the 289 metric tons in the same period of 2023. On the other hand, anchovies recorded an output of 161 metric tons, higher than the production in the third quarter 2023 with 91 metric tons.
