Marine municipal fisheries volume of production decreases in fourth quarter 2024

Marine municipal fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 5,013 metric tons in the fourth quarter 2024. This is lower by 12.0 percent from the 5,699 metric tons production in the fourth quarter of 2023.

 

 

 

Among the provinces, only La Union registered positive growth in the marine municipal fisheries during the fourth quarter of 2024. Its output was posted at 571 metric tons, higher by 44.6 percent from the 395 metric tons production in fourth quarter 2023.

Ilocos Sur marine municipal fisheries output decreased by 23.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024. The production of 690 metric tons was lower than the 900 metric tons output in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Likewise, Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan posted decreases in output by 12.5 percent and 15.3 percent, respectively. Ilocos Norte posted a production of 706 metric tons while Pangasinan recorded an output of 3,046 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2024.

 

 

By provincial share, Pangasinan contributed 60.7 percent to the region’s marine municipal production in the fourth quarter of 2024. Ilocos Norte followed with 14.1 percent. Ilocos Sur and La Union shared 13.8 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively.

 

 

Yellowfin tuna records the highest volume of production

The top five species captured in marine municipal fisheries in the region during the fourth quarter of 2024 were yellowfin tuna, skipjack, spanish mackerel, roundscad, and blue crab.

Yellowfin tuna posted the highest production at 1,396 metric tons, which comprised 27.9 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production. The production was higher by 2.5 percent from the catch in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Skipjack followed with a production of 1,349 metric tons. It comprised 26.9 percent of the marine municipal fisheries production. The production was higher by 13.6 percent from the fourth quarter of 2023 production which posted at 1,187 metric tons.

Spanish mackerel recorded a production of 189 metric tons in fourth quarter 2024 or 3.8 percent of the marine municipal fisheries production. The production was lower than the output of 244 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Roundscad and blue crab, on the other hand, contributed 2.5 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively. Production of roundscad in the fourth quarter of 2024 was registered at 127 metric tons, lower than the 230 metric tons in the same period of 2023. Blue crab recorded an output of 93 metric tons, lower than the production of 96 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023.
