Marine municipal fisheries volume of production decreases in first quarter 2025
Marine municipal fisheries volume of production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 5,731 metric tons in first quarter 2025. This is lower by 9.1 percent from the 6,307 metric tons production in the first quarter of 2024.


Among the provinces, only La Union registered positive growth in the marine municipal fisheries during the first quarter of 2025. Its output was posted at 1,983 metric tons, higher by 9.3 percent from the 1,815 metric tons production in first quarter 2024.
Ilocos Norte marine municipal fisheries output decreased by 31.0 percent in the first quarter of 2025. The production of 877 metric tons was lower than the 1,273 metric tons output in the first quarter of 2024.
Likewise, Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan posted decreases in output by 22.9 percent and 1.8 percent, respectively. Ilocos Norte posted a production of 1,068 metric tons while Pangasinan recorded an output of 1,802 metric tons in the first quarter of 2025.

By provincial share, La Union contributed 34.6 percent to the region’s marine municipal production in the first quarter of 2025. Pangasinan followed with 31.4 percent. Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte shared 18.7 percent and 15.3 percent, respectively.

Skipjack records the highest volume of production
The top five species captured in marine municipal fisheries in the region during the first quarter of 2025 were skipjack, yellowfin tuna, squid, cavalla and anchovies.
Skipjack posted the highest production at 718 metric tons, which comprised 12.5 percent of the total marine municipal fisheries production. The production was lower by 16.0 percent from the catch in the first quarter of 2024.
Yellowfin tuna followed with a production of 520 metric tons. It comprised 9.1 percent of the marine municipal fisheries production. The production was higher by 0.7 percent from the first quarter of 2024 which posted at 516 metric tons.
Squid recorded a production of 468 metric tons in first quarter of 2025 or 8.2 percent of the marine municipal fisheries production. The production was lower than the output of 968 metric tons in the first quarter 2024.
Production of cavalla in the first quarter of 2025 was registered at 270 metric tons, lower than the 292 metric tons in the same period of 2024. Anchovies recorded an output of 214 metric tons, lower than the production of 309 metric tons in the first quarter of 2024.
