Ilocos Region’s production for aquaculture reached 69,214 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2024. However, the production decreased by 1.9 percent compared to the 70,582 metric tons output in the same period in 2023.


By province, Pangasinan and La Union contributed to the decrease of production for Aquaculture. Pangasinan’s Aquaculture production went down to 68,551 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2024, while La Union’s production went down to 470 metric tons.
On the other hand, the aquaculture production in the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte in the fourth quarter of 2024 increased to 129 metric tons and 65 metric tons, respectively.

By aquafarm type, the production from marine cage decreased by 1.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2024. The production went down to 60,657 metric tons from 61,713 metric tons in the fourth quarter 2023. Also, the production from freshwater fishpond and oyster decreased by 7.2 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively. On the other hand, catch in brackish water fishpond, brackish water pen and brackish water cage increased by 1.1 percent, 23.8 percent and 59.6 percent, respectively.

The total milkfish production for Aquaculture in Ilocos Region went down by 1.8 percent, from 66,373 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023 to 65,172 metric tons in the same period in 2024. Harvest from fresh water fishpond, marine cage, and brackish water fishpond contributed to the decrease in production with 30.1 percent, 0.9 percent, and 1.4 percent, respectively.

Ilocos Region’s overall tilapia production for Aquaculture in the fourth quarter of 2024 declined by 7.3 percent. From the recorded production of 3,238 metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023, it went down to 3,002 metric tons in the same quarter in 2024. Harvest from brackish water fishpond and fresh water fishpond contributed to the decrease in production with 13.8 percent and 7.3 percent, respectively. On the other hand, harvest from brackish water cage and small farm reservoir increased by 44.4 percent and 36.4 percent, respectively.
