Goat production in Ilocos Region increased by 2.4 percent
The total goat production in Ilocos Region was estimated at 2,357 metric tons, liveweight in the fourth quarter of 2024. This indicates an increase of 2.4 percent from the 2,301 metric tons, liveweight recorded in the same reference period in 2023.


The Ilocos Region ranked second among the regions in terms of goat production in fourth quarter 2024, accounting for 11.7 percent of the nation's total output. This significant contribution was part of the country's overall production of 20,223 metric tons, liveweight.

Pangasinan dominated the region's goat production in the fourth quarter of 2024, accounting for 62.0 percent of the total output with 1,462 metric tons, liveweight. La Union ranked second with 330 metric tons, liveweight (14.0 percent), followed by Ilocos Sur with 310 metric tons, liveweight (13.2 percent). Ilocos Norte had the lowest share, contributing 255 metric tons, liveweight or 10.8 percent to the regional total.
Goat population in Ilocos Region increases as of 01 October 2024
As of 01 October 2024, the Ilocos Region's goat population reached 382,795, reflecting a 2.2 percent increase from 374,730 heads recorded in October 2023. In contrast, the goat inventory as of 01 January 2025, showed a 9.8 percent decline compared to the same period in 2024.

Among the provinces in the region, only Ilocos Sur experienced a decline in goat population as of 01 October 2024, recording a decrease of 10.2 percent. The other provinces in the region posted positive growth: Pangasinan with 12.0 percent, La Union with 4.2 percent, and Ilocos Norte with 1.4 percent.
As of 01 January 2025, La Union showed a 6.2 percent increase in goat population while the provinces of Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte declined by 25.8 percent, 6.2 percent, and 3.1 percent, respectively.
Farmgate Price
The average farmgate price of goat for slaughter in fourth quarter 2024 was PhP 237.83 per kilogram, liveweight. It went down by 0.03 percent from the average farmgate price of PhP 237.91 per kilogram, liveweight in fourth quarter 2023.
The highest farmgate price in fourth quarter 2024 was recorded in December, listed at PhP 260.00 per kilogram, liveweight.
