Labor Force Participation Rate
The total population of 15 years old and over in the Ilocos Region was estimated at 3.7 million in January 2025. Out of this population, about 2.3 million were in the labor force.
The Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) of the region was estimated at 63.2 percent in January 2025. This means that six in every ten of the population aged 15 years and over were either employed or unemployed.

The employment rate of the region declines to 95.0 percent
The employment rate in the Ilocos Region decreased by 1.0 percentage point from 96.0 percent in January 2024 to 95.0 percent in January 2025. It was also lower by 1.7 percentage points from the 96.7 percent in October 2024.
In terms of level, the number of employed persons in January 2025 was estimated at 2.2 million individuals aged 15 years old and over out of the 2.3 million individuals who were in the labor force.

The unemployment rate increased to 5.0 percent
The unemployment rate of the region in January 2025 was estimated at 5.0 percent equivalent to 118 thousand unemployed persons, The estimate was higher than the 4.0 percent (92 thousand) in January 2024. This was also higher by 1.7 percentage points from the 3.3 percent or 76 thousand unemployed in October 2024.

Underemployment rate is estimated at 14.5 percent
Underemployed persons in Ilocos Region were estimated at 14.5 percent or equivalent to 321 thousand underemployed persons in January 2025. This estimate was higher than the 14.2 percent or 309 thousand reported number of underemployed persons in January 2024. It was also higher than the 140 thousand (6.3 percent) underemployed in October 2024.
