The corn production of the Ilocos Region in the first quarter of 2025 is 365,109 metric tons, a decrease of 1.8 percent from the 371,661 metric tons harvest in the same period of 2024. Similarly, the area harvested went down by 2.2 percent from 60,516 hectares to 59,176 hectares. The yield per hectare, however, increased by 0.5 percent from 6.14 metric tons to 6.17 metric tons.

 

In the first quarter of 2025, 94.3 percent of the region’s corn production was yellow corn while the remaining 5.7 percent was white corn. As for the total harvested area, 91.7 percent was yellow corn and 8.3 percent was white corn.

 

Pangasinan accounted for 66.1 percent of the total corn production in the region for the first quarter of 2025. This was equal to 241,492 metric tons harvest, a 1.2 percent decrease from the 244,504 metric tons production in the first quarter of 2024. The harvest area also decreased by 1.7 percent from 38,684 hectares to 38,029 hectares. On the other hand, the yield per hectare improved by 0.5 percent from 6.32 metric tons to 6.35 metric tons.

Ilocos Sur harvested 53,179 metric tons of corn during the first quarter of 2025, comprising 14.6 percent of the region’s total corn production. Having recorded 55,974 metric tons harvest in the same period of 2024, the province’s production decreased by 5.0 percent. The harvest area was lower by 5.1 percent from 9,327 hectares to 8,848 hectares. The yield per hectare went up from 6.00 metric tons to 6.01 metric tons.

 

Ilocos Norte made up 12.4 percent of the region’s first quarter 2025 total corn production. With 45,223 metric tons of corn, the production of the province went down by 1.7 percent from the 45,986 metric tons recorded in the first quarter of 2024. The harvest area decreased by 2.5 percent from 8,205 hectares to 8,000 hectares. However, the yield per hectare improved by 0.9 percent from 5.60 metric tons to 5.65 metric tons.

La Union, with a 6.9 percent production share, was the only province able to increase its production this first quarter of 2025 relative to the first quarter of 2024. The volume of corn harvested went up from 25,197 metric tons to 25,215 metric tons. Even if the harvest area decreased from 4,300 hectares to 4,299 hectares, its yield per hectare increased from 5.86 metric tons to 5.87 metric tons.
