Carabao production in Ilocos Region decreased by 19.6 percent
The total carabao production in IIocos Region recorded at 1,713 metric tons, liveweight in second quarter 2024. This shows a decrease of 19.6 percent from the 2,132 metric tons, liveweight output a year ago.


Ilocos Region contributed 5.2 percent to the national production of 32,899 metric tons, liveweight. It ranked 12th among the regions in the country in second quarter 2024 in terms of carabao production.

Pangasinan has the highest production of 823 metric tons, liveweight in the second quarter 2024, making up 48.0 percent of the region’s carabao production. Ilocos Sur followed with 436 metric tons, liveweight contributing 25.5 percent in the production. La Union has the least share of 305 metric tons, liveweight, contributing 8.7 percent. Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte posted a production of 305 metric tons in second quarter 2024.

Carabao population in Ilocos Region decreases as of 01 July 2024
The total headcount of carabao in Ilocos Region as of 01 July 2024 was 136,612 heads. It showed a decrease of 5.1 percent compared to the inventory of 144,005 heads in 2023 of the same reference dates.
As of 01 July 2024, Ilocos Sur increased by 8.3 percent from the inventory in same reference date in 2023. Meanwhile, Pangasinan, La Union, and Ilocos Norte posted decreases in inventory as of 01 July 2024 by 17.1 percent, 4.5 percent, and 1.5 percent, respectively.
Farmgate Price
The average farmgate price of carabao for slaughter in second quarter 2024 was PhP214.10 per kilogram, liveweight. This is lower by 0.2 percent from the average price of PhP214.47 per kilogram, liveweight in second quarter 2023.
The highest farmgate price recorded in second quarter 2024 was in May and June at 221.25 per kilogram, liveweight.
