The overall palay production of Region I in April-June 2016 went down by 0.6 percent from the 140,993 MT output in the same period last year. It was contributed by the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan that posted negative growths in output of 33.5 percent, and 7.5 percent, respectively. On the other hand, palay production of Ilocos Norte and La Union increased by 61.2 percent, and 0.5 percent, respectively. Overall yield per hectare declined by 0.1 percent.

- · The Palay and Corn Production Survey (PCPS) covers sample farming households in sample barangays in all provinces. Starting this 2016, Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental are included in Negros Island Region (NIR). The PCPS is conducted quarterly with the quarters as the reference periods, as follows:
- ·The objective of the survey is to generate estimates and forecasts on palay/corn area, production and yield.
- ·The purpose of this survey is to provide data inputs for policy and programs on rice and corn.
