The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO) I celebrated Civil Registration Month (CRM) last February 2016, themed as “Makiisa... Makisali sa Dekadang CRVS”.
Among the highlights of the celebration was RSSO I’s participation in the 3rd “Kasalang Bayan sa Hundred Islands” in the City of Alaminos, Pangasinan on February 14, 2016. The ceremony was spearheaded by City Civil Registrar Lovely D. Milles, wherein 168 couples have exchanged their romantic vows, intensified by the beautiful scenery of Quezon Island, before the principal sponsors and guests. Hon. Mayor Arthur F. Celeste acted as the solemnizing officer of the mass wedding, while RD Socrates L. Ramores gave message on the importance of civil registration.
In Aringay, La Union a mobile registration program was successfully conducted through the initiative of MCR Laida Rico in two remote barangays of the municipality on February 26, 2016. With the help of PSA La Union staff, headed by OIC-PSO Danites E. Teñido, together with Jessie E. Campos and Nancy Paula Ordoña of RSSO I, the residents’ issues and concerns regarding civil registration were addressed. A mass wedding and baptism ceremonies were also conducted during the program.
The PSA Region 1 also displayed streamers to different key areas. This is to promote the awareness about civil registration and its importance to different sectors of society.
A bloodletting activity was also conducted on February 15, 2016 at the RSSO I Conference Room, in coordination with the Philippine National Red Cross-Region I. Some PSA employees and clients of the Civil Registration System-Serbilis Outlet were the successful donors of the said annual activity.
Also part of the activities for this year’s CRM celebration was the issuance of civil registry documents free of charge to selected elderly clients on February 29, 2016, in support to RA 9994, granting benefits and privileges to senior citizens.
This year’s theme of the CRM celebration was in support to the declaration of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade for years 2014-2024, which aims to achieve a universal civil registration by 2024, to provide every one with legal proof of identity and to produce accurate, complete and timely vital statistics.
Presidential Proclamation No. 682, signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino in 1991 declared the month of February every year as the Civil Registration Month. The Office of the Civil Registrar General also issued Memo Circular 2016-05 to all PSA Field and City/Municipal Civil Registry Offices to spearhead activities to champion the importance of civil registration.
