There were 350 marriages registered inthird quarter 2020 showing a decrease of 24.24 percent from 462 marriages in the same period last year.

Seventy-five percent of the city/municipalities have decreased number of registered marriages in third quarter 2020 compared with theirfigures in the same period of2019.  The top three municipalities that posted the highest decrease were Santol from 12 to 4 (66.67%) Burgos from 6 to 2 (66.67%), Balaoan from 19 to 8 (57.89%) and Bangar from 13 to 6 (53.85%). 

On the contrary, the biggest increase in the number of registered marriages in the province was noted in Sudipen from 7 to 10 marriages (42.86%). This was followed by Bauang from 36 to 42 marriages (16.67%)and Aringay from 21 to 22 marriages (4.76%).

 

 

 

In third quarter 2020, City of San Fernando recordedthe highest number of registered marriages in La Union with 62 marriages or 17.71 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  Bauang ranked second with 42 marriages (12.00 percent share) followed by Agoo with 33 marriages (9.43 percent share).

Same quarter a year ago, the lone cityalso topped the city/municipalities with 74 marriages or 16.02 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  It was followed by San Juan with 51marriages (11.04 percent share) and Agoo with 39 marriages (8.44 percent share).

On the other end,the municipality of Burgos posted the least number of registered marriagesinthird quarter 2020 with two (0.57 percent share).

 

The month of Julywas the most preferred month to tie the knot bothduring the third quarter of2019and 2020 with a total of 225 marriages and 155marriages respectively. These correspond to a daily average of seven registered marriages and five registered marriages respectively.Moreover, these surpassed the provincial daily average number of four registered marriages in the third quarter of 2020 and five registered marriagesin the same quarter last year.

 

The least number of marriage occurrences during the third quarter of 2020 was recorded in August with daily average of three marriage occurrences. Similarly, in last year's third quarter, the months of August and September recorded the least daily average marriages with both four occurrences.

 

 

The biggest proportion of groom who got married in third quarter 2020 belonged to the age group 25 to 29 with 145 grooms. Moreover, the biggest proportion of brides belonged to age group of 25 to 29 with147.

On the contrary, the least proportion of groom who got married in 2020 was recorded under the below 20 age group, whilethe least proportion of bride belonged to the age group 50 years and over.

 

 

Marriages performed through civil ritesin third quarter 2020 ranked first with 252 marriages (72.00 percent share). Marriage ceremonies solemnized by other religious rites ranked second with 60 or 17.14 percent of the total marriages in La Union in third quarter 2020 followed by marriages solemnized by Roman Catholic Churches with 36 or 10.29 percent share. On the other end, there were two marriages performed by Muslim rites in third quarter 2020.

            Data on marriages presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Marriage (Municipal Form No. 97) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information presented includes marriages registered from July to September of 2019 and 2020.
