There were 733 marriages registered in the 1st quarter 2021 in La Union showing a decrease of 36.70 percent from 1,158 marriages in the same period last year.

 

There were 17 city/municipalities that have lower number of registered marriages in 1st quarter 2021 compared with their figures in the same period of 2020.  The top three municipalities that posted the highest decrease were Bangar from 51 to 9 (82.35%), Rosario from 128 to 44 (65.63%), and Burgos from 14 to 5 (64.29%).

 

Meanwhile, Aringay recorded an increase of 77.78 from 36 marriages in 1st quarter 2020 to 64 marriages in 1st quarter 2021. It was followed by municipality of Balaoan with 53 marriages in 1st quarter 2021 to 65 marriages in same quarter a year ago. Lastly, the municipality of Sudipen also increased by 31.25 percent from 16 marriages in 1st quarter 2021 to 21 marriages in the same quarter last year.

 

In 1st quarter 2021, City of San Fernando recorded the highest number of registered marriages in La Union with 125 marriages or 17.05 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  Bauang ranked second with 67 marriages (9.14 percent share) followed by Balaoan with 65 marriages (8.87 percent share).

 

In the same quarter a year ago, the lone city also topped the city/municipalities with 169 marriages or 14.59 percent of the total registered marriages in the province.  It was followed by Rosario with 128 marriages (11.05 percent share) and Bauang with 94 marriages (8.12 percent share).

 

On the other end, the municipality of Burgos posted the least number of registered marriages in 1st quarter 2021 with five (0.68 percent share).

 

The month of January was the most preferred month to tie the knot both during the 1st quarter of 2020 and 2021 with a total of 683 marriages and 292 marriages, respectively. These correspond to a daily average of 22 registered marriages and 13 registered marriages, respectively. Moreover, these surpassed the provincial daily average number of 13 registered marriages in the 1st quarter 2021 and eight registered marriages in the same quarter last year.

 

The least daily average number of marriage occurrences in 1st quarter 2021 was recorded in March with seven marriage occurrences. Similarly, in last year's 1st quarter, the month of March recorded the least daily average marriages with four occurrences.

 

The biggest proportion of grooms who got married in 1st quarter 2021 belonged to the age group 25 to 29 with 433 grooms while, the biggest proportion of brides belonged to age group of 25 to 29 with 445.

 

On the contrary, the least proportion of grooms who got married in 1st quarter 2021 was recorded under the below 20 age group with ten grooms while the least proportion of brides belonged to the age group 45 to 49 and age 50 and over with 14 brides each.

 

In 1st quarter 2021 in La Union, marriages performed through civil rites ranked first with 532 marriages (45.94 percent share). Marriage ceremonies solemnized by Roman Catholic Churches  ranked second with 398 or 34.37 percent of the total marriages in the province followed by marriages solemnized by other religious rite with 222 (19.17 percent share). On the other end, there were five marriages performed by Muslim rites in 1st quarter 2021.

            Data on marriages presented in this release were obtained from the Certificate of Marriage (Municipal Form No. 97) registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars in La Union and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority - La Union Provincial Statistical Office. Information presented includes marriages registered from January to March of 2020 and 2021.
