The population of the Municipality of Caoayan, Ilocos Sur as of 01 May 2020 is 19,574 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). This accounts for about 2.77 percent of Ilocos Sur population in 2020.

The 2020 population of the municipality is lower by 287 from the population of 19,861 in 2015, and 1,023 more thanthe population of 18,551 in 2010. (Table 1)

 

Caoayan posts an annual population growth rate of -0.31 percent in 2020

The municipality of Caoayan posted an annual population growth rate of -0.31 percent from 2015 to 2020. The rate at which the population of the municipality grew from 2010 to 2015 was recorded at 1.31 percent. (Table 2)

 

 

Fuerte registers the highest population in 2020

Among the seventeen barangays comprising the municipality, barangay Fuerte had the biggest population in 2020 with 2,675 persons, followed by barangay Pantay Tamurong with 1,914 persons, and barangay Villamar with 1,771 persons. (Figure 1)

Meanwhile, barangay Caparacadan registered the lowest population in 2020 with 335 persons, followed by barangay Pantay-Quitiquit with 432 persons, and barangay Baggoc with 775 persons. 

 

Caoayan posts an average household size of 4.0 in 2020

The municipality of Caoayan posted an average household size (AHS) of 4.0 in 2020. In 2015, it posted an AHS of 4.3 persons per household. The AHS in 2010 was also at 4.3 persons per household, higher than in 2020.

As observed in Figure 2, the household population in Caoayan in 2020 is lower by 294 persons compared with the household population of 19,861 in 2015, and higher by 1,017 persons compared with the 18,550 household population in 2010.

The number of households in 2020 posted increases compared with the number of households in 2010 and 2015.

With a total land area of approximately 17.42 square kilometers, the population density of Caoayan in 2020 was posted at 1,124 persons per square kilometer.  This represents a decrease of 16 persons per square kilometer or 1.4 percent decrease from the population density of 1,140 persons per square kilometer in 2015.  In 2010, there were 1,065 persons residing in every square kilometer of land in the municipality.
