PRODUCTION

The total volume of chicken production from July to December 2019 was recorded at 41,958 metric tons liveweight. This was 3.72 percent higher than the 40,455 metric tons liveweight chicken production in same period of 2018. Chicken production for both 3rd and 4th quarters increased by 3.91 and 3.56 percent respectively.

Ilocos Region contributed 4.23 percent to the national chicken production of 991,242 metric tons liveweight in 2nd semester 2019. It ranked 6 th among the top ten chicken producing regions in the country.

INVENTORY

The total chicken inventory as of July 1, 2019 in Ilocos Region was estimated at 9.88 million birds. This decreased by 1.49 percent compared with 10.03 million birds as of July 1, 2018. Total chicken inventory of 10.1 million birds as of October 1, 2019 was higher by 3.31 percent from 9.82 million birds as of October 1, 2018. The increment was contributed by increases in chicken inventory in Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan. However, a drop of 17.34 percent on chicken inventory was noted in Ilocos Sur.

By provincial breakdown, Pangasinan contributed the highest share of 55.04 percent to the total chicken inventory in the region as of October 1, 2019. This was followed by La Union with 18.97 percent share, Ilocos Norte with 16.74 percent share, and Ilocos Sur with 9.25 percent share.

By type of chicken, the inventory of broiler as of October 1, 2019 was 4.25 million heads. It was higher by 12.68 percent compared with 3.77 million heads in the same period of 2018. Inventory of layers as of October 1, 2019 increased by 21.45 percent while the inventory of native/improved chicken as of October 1, 2019 decreased by 6.96 percent compared with its level as of October 1, 2018. Native/improved chicken had the highest share to the total chicken inventory in Ilocos Region as of October 1, 2019 with 46.81 percent while broiler chicken and layers shared 41.89 percent and 11.30 percent respectively.

CHICKEN DRESSED IN POULTRY DRESSING PLANTS

The number of chickens dressed in Poultry Dressing Plants (PDPs) in 2nd semester 2019 was estimated at 16.38 million heads. This was higher than the 2 nd semester 2018 level by 14.01 percent. Both 3rd and 4th quarters of 2019 posted increases of 14.28 percent and 13.75 percent respectively compared with the levels recorded in 3rd and 4th quarters of 2018.

Increasing trend of retail price per kilo of fully dressed chicken broiler was noted from July 2019 to November 2019. The average retail price of dressed chicken in Ilocos Region in 3 rd quarter 2019 was PhP161.30 per kilo. This recorded an increase of 4.61 percent compared with PhP 154.19 per kilo in 3rd quarter 2018. The average retail price of dressed chicken increased further to PhP 173.90 per kilo in 4th quarter 2019, higher by 12.58 percent than last year’s 4 th quarter price of PhP 154.57 per kilo.
