Birth Statistics in Ilocos Sur: First Quarter of 2021

Data on births presented in this Special Release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Birth (Municipal Form 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Ilocos Sur. The information included were births registered from the first quarter of 2020 and 2021.

 

Registered Live Births in Ilocos Sur in First Quarter 2021

The number of registered live births in Ilocos Sur during the first quarter of 2021 totaled 1,903. It decreased by 29.7 percent from the 2,707 registered live births in the same period of 2020.

The daily average birth occurrence during the first quarter of 2021 was computed at 21. The highest was recorded in January with a daily average birth occurrence of 23.

 

City of Vigan posts highest in registered live births

The City of Vigan recorded the highest number of total registered live births with 397. This was followed by City of Candon with 335, then Sinait with 210, Narvacan with 205, and Tagudin with 155 registered live births.

 

Registered Live Births by Sex

Males (952) dominated females (951) in terms of the number of registered live births during the first quarter of 2021. (see Figure 2)

Similarly, registered male live births (1,372) outnumbered female live births (1,335) during the first quarter of 2020.

 

Registered live births by type of birth

In terms of birth type, almost all of the registered live births were born single during the first quarter of 2021 accounting for 99.2 percent to the total registered live births in the province. Meanwhile, registered live births who were born twins registered 0.8 percent to the total registered live births during the same period.

Similarly, almost all registered live births were born single with 99.7 percent share to the total registered live births during the first quarter of 2020. Registered live births born twins posted a 0.3 percent share to the total registered live births in the same period.

 

Registered live births by attendant at birth

Figure 3 shows that 81.6 percent of the registered live births in the province were attended by physicians during the first quarter of 2021. This was followed by those who were attended by hilot or unlicensed midwives with 15.5 percent share. Midwives attended to 2.3 percent of the registered live births while nurses only attended 0.1 percent of the total registered live births.
