The 30th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration with the theme, “Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation," will jumpstart in Ilocos Region through an opening ceremony on October 8, 2019 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas – La Union Regional Office (BSP-LURO), City of San Fernando, La Union organized by the Regional Statistics Committee I (RSC I) composed of various Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), Academic Institutions and Private Sectors.

 

The theme for this year’s celebration highlights the importance of innovating statistical systems, processes and technologies in coming up with quality statistics that will be used by the data users especially the planners, policymakers and program implementers who are in the best position to shape the future of the country and of its people.

 

A jingle singing contest for secondary and tertiary students will be held during the Regional Opening Ceremony, which will be participated by the champions from the four provinces of Ilocos Region. As part of the NSM kick off, a ceremonial ribbon cutting will be conducted for the opening of the Regional Statistical Exhibit which will run from October 8 to 15, 2019 at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - Mid La Union Campus Library, City San Fernando, La Union. The exhibit will feature statistical data through the display of infographics, brochures, and flyers from member agencies of the RSC I. Moreover, the upcoming activities for this month’s celebration include statistical competitions such as oration, statistics quiz, poster-slogan making and essay writing.  Also, Statistical Symposiums, Gender Statistics Training, and Philippine Statistics Quiz provincial elimination will be conducted.

 

The 30th NSM celebration will culminate on October 29, 2019 at the Department of Agriculture Regional Office I wherein winners of various statistical contests as well as the “Best NSM Province Implementer” will be awarded. 

 

The NSM was first observed in 1990 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990 that had declared the month of October of every year as the National Statistics Month. 

 

PSA issued Memorandum Circular No. 2019-07 enjoining all agencies of the government, LGUs, academic institutions, state universities and colleges, and the private sector at the national and subnational levels to actively participate in and support the 30th NSM celebration in October 2019.  RSC I and the Regional Development Council 1 also issued RSC Resolution No. 05 s. 2019 and RDC-1 Resolution No. 89, s. 2019 in support to the month-long celebration in the region.
