The economy of Ilocos Region grew by 6.5 percent in 2018, faster than the 5.8 percent growth in the previous year. It was contributed by the acceleration of Services and Industry. Services grew slightly faster by 6.8 percent in 2018, as compared with the previous year’s growth of 6.7 percent. Among the Services, Public Administration and Defense; Compulsory Social Security grew the fastest among the sub-industries with 14.2 percent. The number of registered live births in Ilocos Region in 2018 summed up to 93,579, a decrease of 2.8 percent compared to 96,302 births in 2017. The daily average birth occurrence in 2018 was computed at 256 births or an average of 11 babies born per hour. The month of October was observed to have the highest average daily births with 293 babies during the year 2018, higher than the daily average births in the region in 2018. There were 26,055 marriages registered in 2018, a decrease of 1.4 percent from the previous year’s figure of 26,415 marriages.Two provinces recorded an increase in the number of registered marriages from 2017 to 2018. Approved building permits in four quarter 2018 totaled to 2,529. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Region I for December 2018 (2012 based) was recorded at 118.2. This figure is 7.7 percentage points lower than the December 2017’s figure of 110.5. In the previous month, the region’s CPI was pegged at 119.3. The top three commodity groups that recorded high price indices were: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (181.3); food and non-alcoholic beverages (127.5); and furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (122.3).Read more about Ilocos Region’s CPI posted at 118.2 in December 2018

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will conduct the 2019 Geotagging of Building Structures starting March 18, 2019. This covers all the remaining Enumeration Areas (EAs) or barangays that were not yet covered during the 2017 and 2018 geotagging field operations.
